Tear gas hazing over a Target in Minneapolis, MI. Protesters are worried about the inhumane damage that has been occurring in Minneapolis, MI. Is it enough? (CNN)
Winter is engulfing everyone in the northern U.S.A, creating icy roads. Falling trees on the ground, and snowstorms so bizarre, you may not know whether power will shut off. As threatening as it may sound, weather is not the shard of devastation. It may be the recent brutality that has been occurring, specifically in Minneapolis.
Frozen roads and an avalanche of turmoil: I.C.E officers. The U.S.A. has been facing political issues with undocumented immigrants, having both sides disoriented on the issue. The way deportation has been handled is unethical in the U.S.A., with millions of Americans protesting and exasperated with the Trump administration’s choices.
I.C.E officers are deployed to remove undocumented immigrants. It is their purpose. However, in light of recent events, the administration has been proven to abuse its power. The sporadic wave of protests has been making headlines throughout the past weeks. Devastatingly, many of the instances of ICE brutality have been proven true in Minnesota.
There is documentary footage of some of the shootings, and many broadcasts, many of them being neutral, left, and right-sided, portray the inhumane casualties that are going around Minneapolis, MI.
A peaceful neighborhood stands in southern Minneapolis, MN, around Portland Avenue. Neighbors were cleaning their road from ice; the holiday season just wrapped up. The new year just started. On January 7th, 2026, at 9:37 AM CST, Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot through the neck by an I.C.E (Immigration Correction of Enforcement) officer, later known as Jonathan Ross. Renée Nicole Good was told by officers to “step out of the car.” However, her wife told her to keep driving, and even some of the officers ordered Renée to remain seated.
Then, Officer Ross jumped in front of Renée's Honda Pilot from the sidewalk. Misinformation by some broadcasts, like Fox News, and the Trump administration has been spread regarding the issue. Specifically, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, proclaimed that "Renee committed domestic terrorism by running the officer.”
This has been proven false by clear video footage presenting Renée's efforts to leave the situation. Nicole’s wheels were geared to the right, in an exit-like formation. On the contrary, Officer Ross stationed himself in front of Nicole's car. She was a born U.S citizen. The possible motive to detain or go after Renée is unclear. Video evidence has been attached below by the following sources: The New York Times, disproving and contradicting the Trump administration's account of the ICE officers in Minneapolis, MN, justifiable actions; and CNN, compiling many recordings of minutes before the moment, witnesses, the aftermath, and surrounding moments.
CNN’s Sequence of Events and Additional Recordings of the Shooting:
The New York Times Contradictory Analysis:
Renee Nicole Good was murdered by an ice officer; that is the factual consensus.
Her death, consequently, caused mass outrage all over Minneapolis, MN, with protestors advocating for her justice and for I.C.E to be taken out of Minneapolis, MN. Although this is not the last case of an unlawful death or causality.
A six-month-old was tear-gassed amid the protests and the spark of an I.C.E raid. The six-month-old faced respiratory issues and has been hospitalized.
Protests have been growing more intense as more civilians have been reported as injured. The death of Renee Nicole catalyzed the public, revealing possible motives from I.C.E is not only after certain demographics. Anything can happen to anyone.
However, the intentions may still be unclear to the Trump administration. In light of a new case, the first instance may not have been a mistake.
Alex Pretti, an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse, was pepper-sprayed and shot ten times after trying to record a detention facility and supposedly having a gun on January 24, 2026. Alex Pretti was not holding a gun during the scene; rather, holding a phone. Although Alex Pretti was legally carrying a gun, it was not on him during the scene.
Alex Pretti, 11 days prior, was engaged in an altercation with I.C.E officers; however, their death has been recent, and new evidence is thawing.
Snowstorms are always inevitable; it sucks being snowed in and wondering when it will stop. As roads are becoming frozen in Minnesota, remember, the wrong ice is adhering to the state. I.C.E in Minneapolis, MN has upheaved the whole state. The mayor of Minneapolis, MN, Jacob Frey, has called I.C.E to leave the state and the city, declaring their actions as deliberate and predatory, crossing a terrible line. Many American civilians, not just civilians of Minneapolis, around the U.S from Los Angeles, CA, to Boston, MA, have been protesting against the administration's orders and against I.C.E. Recently, on January 30, 2026, a whole strike called “ICE OUT” day occurred; this moment portrays what true justice looks like, advocating for others.
Students, especially high school students, around the U.S have been organizing protests against I.C.E, advocating against deportations and inhumane killings.
Brisk drafts of Minneapolis, MN, were never the problem; it is the inhumane infiltration of I.C.E officers, causing peril to civilian lives in Minnesota, where it has been an issue. The winter is cold, but not as freezing as I.C.E officers. As the protests will keep occurring throughout Minneapolis, MN, and throughout the U.S, just know, this is happening, and you can make a change. If you live near an impacted area by I.C.E, remember your rights under the Constitution and share advice to keep others safe. Keep advocating against I.C.E safely, like protests around your school. If you are in school, try organizing a protest with your school administration—advocacy is crucial in times like this. Furthermore, if you are worried about your municipality or state, discuss with your local representative. You can look through local governmental websites to obtain their information, and call if you have any clarifying queries regarding the I.C.E situation. I.C.E may have slipped everything up, but the inner warmth lies in your voice: to project for humanity and stay safe.
